La Sarthe à vélo, a marked itinerary, was opened in June 2014. Follow the paths through the countryside and meander along the banks of the rivers Sarthe and Loir (not to be confused with the river Loire).
La Sarthe à vélo covers 420 km of itineraries across the area, on quiet roads and green routes. The ideal way to explore the diverse landscapes and heritage of Sarthe.
The project boosts both tourism and economic growth.
Located between Normandy and the famous Loire valley, at the gateway between the west and the Paris basin, Sarthe links several
European cycling networks:
- Véloscénie, between the Paris region and the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.
- Loire à Vélo, which follows the river Loire.

The council is responsible for the signposts throughout the network as well as the tourist information panels that indicate sights to see and nearby services. There are also larger totem panels at the entrances to the département.
